Getting prepared for this winter

In our house, we have an "Arctic Entry", its a room before the house that catches all the cold air. There is a closet in there to keep jackets and accessories, I had one bin given to me by my neighbor, Shelby, so I marched myself down to Target and purchased two more to keep hats, gloves and warm socks/leg warmers.

Today,  I went to a craft store and bought three tags for $0.49 a piece.

Also a silver colored paint pen and thin silver ribbon.

Painted and let dry

Used Avery clear stickers to make labels.

Peeled right off and on to my painted tags..

Tied them to my baskets.

Can I express to you that I can't wait to get a new phone. I promise I took this picture many times to attempt to get a better one and have it not look like it was taken back in the '70s. But to no avail, the camera is going bad....

Winter?

Really??? Snowing already!! Where was fall?????? OH my. Toto we are not in Kansas ANYMORE.
Yesterday, September 23rd, 2013, it snowed. They call this a flurry, but where I come from, it SNOWED.

Morning

Evening
Kind of hard to see, but those are snow capped mountains outside of the kitchen window.
Well it left by the afternoon and Yoyo couldn't have been happier. He was trying to find the green grassy spots while it was snowing. :/

I became motivated from the snow and my Dad, to make Drew and I a cold weather survival kit. I put Drew’s in a backpack, so it fit better in his truck. As for me, I bought a storage bin from Target and placed everything in there…

I took the advice of Google and this is what is in our survival kit….
·         Water
·         Snacks
·         Duct Tape
·         First aid stuff (bandages, gauze, cortizone cream, Bandaids….I should probably put some aspirin in there)
·         Flashlight
·         Extra batteries
·         A warm fleece Blanket
       Ice Scraper
      Jumper Cables
      Baby Wipes

What I still need is a lighter, and a big rope to have someone help get me out of the ditch I get myself into!!! and kitty liter…..Say what… Thanks to Crystal, it is good for two things, if you get stuck, place it under your tires and it will give you traction to get out and it offers weight in the trunk of Rhonda the Honda.

Bring on the SNOW!

Mom and Dad's trip: Part II

While my parents were here we stopped by lilly and Peter Pomroy's house for a very nice breakfast.
The picture is of Lilly a few years ago.

Mom, Dad and Drew stopped at the hospital to see me but to also look at all the art work and cool stuff on display. The Native Alaskans make jakets out of whale and seal bladders and intestines. :)

We went down to  Potter Marsh. It  is a preserved marsh land that has a board walk.

Took a gondola up to the top of a ski mountain

At the top of the ski mountain, Alyeska. It was chili!

All the above pictures are from the top of Alyeska. Then we came down and ate at Double Musky. It was great!

Dad and I at Beluga Point..

Watching for whales

Our Family, Lee and Barbara!

Lee and Barbara took Mom and Dad out for a day while we worked.

Graves with houses on top of them from the Russian Orthodox Church

Reindeer at the Alaska State Fair

Massive pumpkins that Mom and Dad got to see at the Alaska State Fair.

We really enjoyed having Mom and Dad here at the first of September.  They are a lot of fun to show around and will just go with it!
