Below is what I wrote yesterday. I didn't post it because the internet was not working....
Literally, we were next to the clouds when we started our drive today.
Literally, we were next to the clouds when we started our drive today.
Absolutely
beautiful with the clouds low and us at a higher elevation. We could
see the clouds making a white fluffy cotton blanket that the mountains
disappeared into.
We
drove to Whitehorse today and will be here for two nights. It was a
long drive today, 8 hours on winding roads. We took our time though and
stopped at Liard Hot Springs and Watson Lake. The hot springs were
fantastic and so warm!! It is a naturally occurring hot spring protected
by the province of British Columbia. Average temperature of 100
degrees Fahrenheit.
We
talked with a lot of different people there. Most at this point, are
either headed to or from Alaska. We talked with a mom and her older
daughter. They were at the same hotel two nights ago in Fort St. John
and then again last night at the same place. The daughter lives in Eagle
River, Ak, which is next to Anchorage. They were very nice and she got
our number.
We also met Ted, he does this trip twice a year and this particular time, he is driving his '67 Chevy pickup.
This is Ted's truck and we actually passed him yesterday and today we met him!! The truck goes to about 60 mph so this is the sign on the truck!! Drew took this picture as I passed him... yesterday.
The sign says, " Why are you still behind me? GO AROUND."
Not 15 minutes after we left the hot springs we saw some friends.
Buffalo
just hanging out by the road. So far, we have seen a moose, a deer and
sheep with a young baby. Keeping our eyes peeled, because we would rather not
collide with one
Crossed over to the Yukon. The last province until we get to Alaska.
The other thing that Watson Lake is known for is the Sign Post Forest.
People have been putting signs up since 1946 when the Alaska Highway was first completed.
Backtracking
to last night.... Our original plan was to set up camp by Liard Hot
Springs, but after looking at the weather,p0 we decided against that. It's a good thing!!! It stormed, not just rained, but
stormed all night. So we booked a cabin at the Northern Rockies Lodge.
Made
it to Watson Lake for lunch. We ate at a place that served buffalo.
Drew had a buffalo burger, maybe a cousin to one we saw on the road. :) I
had a grilled cheese. We had lunch outside and went next door to a
museum about the northern lights.
Enjoyed
a movie about the Northern lights on a screen that was directly
overhead in a dome shape. The seats laid back so you could look up
easily.

The Main lodge where they have a restaurant, hotel rooms, and gas!!
The pups in the Northen Rockies! Lucky dog!
Drew
was getting something out of the car last night and called me over. He
said, "I think she only has two legs!" Well, come to find out, Pelly, was
a three legged dog ! Yoyo played with her like no other. They
immediately realized their common bond. Bobby felt left out because they
weren't paying him any attention.... After all, he has four legs.
Pelly
was shot in her front left leg and was found wondering in a dump. Her
soon-to-be owner was the vet tech, Catherine, where she was treated.
Catherine nursed her back to health and took her home, like we did for
Yoyo.
Just two more legs to go.... From Whitehorse - Tok, AK and Tok - Anchorage.
Aww so glad Yo-Yo found a 3-legged friend!! How sweet! I cannot believe y'alls trip is already coming to a close. I have been living vicariously through yall during your trip. Can't wait to come visit yall sometime!
