A Month in Alaksa and a Whole Lot to Say!

Hey!!!!! Back from being MIA! We have been in Anchorage a whole month! It has been crazy busy and fun! It is absolutely awesome here. The sun doesn't exactly go down. The best way I have found to describe it .....It gets to about where you need headlights.
This is about 10pm taken about 3 weeks ago.
We can both notice that it is getting darker as the days go by.

We were offered a house on base 3 days after we arrived here and we took it.  It is on the Army base and it has four bedrooms...so Drew has his "Man Cave" and I have a "craft room". We are less than a mile from the commissary and the PX (military acronym for the mall, kinda).

I have family up here and they are awesome.  (My Mom's mom) Boppa's first cousin Lee Jordan and his wife Barbara live here. And all but one of his four kids, plus their families are here too. We have hung out with them several times. They had us over for 4th of July. We played whiffle ball in their back yard. It is big enough with bases and a decent outfield.
I regretfully haven't taken many pics while with them. Here are some pictures when the Pugh's were here over the 4th.

Nelda batting during a whiffle ball game.
She had a better batting average than Drew.
Ole in the background, she hits well!
The Pugh's visiting Alaska with Diana Jordan!
The Alaska side of the family is so sweet and really treat you like family. We are really enjoying being close to them.

The picture below is when I got on first base, Drew was playing first base and he was giving me a hard time,  LOL.

We have met friends through Shebra (a former Co-worker from L&D). She introduced us through Facebook to Crystal and her husband, Patrick and their child, Kayla. We have also hung out with them several times.

We drove down to the Alyeska Resort about 45 minutes out of Anchorage. Took a gondola ride to the top of  mountains and glaciers.
Drew and Kayla having a snowball fight..in July!

It really isn't cold, that day was about 50 degrees and windy, but we were on top of glaciers. The last two weeks it has been consistently 70 degrees. The scary part, is that everyone, and I mean everyone, you talk to say this is an usually summer. It is normally rainy and older in July.

We tried our hand at Stand Up Paddle boarding, or SUP. We did that on post at Otter Lake. It was fun and we didn't fall off as much as we thought. After a while we were trying to do stuff like get all the way back of the board and then walk up to the front. We had an instructor to show us the ropes. The water was pretty cool, that initially fall into the water was not fun.

We went on a walk by the coast a couple days ago with Crystal, Patrick, Kayla and some of Kayla's friends.

The pups have a backyard and Bobby must smell lots of different animals, because we never had a problem before with him digging holes. That has all changed since we got here. He has dug himself out of the backyard on several occasions.

I took this picture about a mile from our house on post.

We watched the Chinooks baseball game and this was the view from the back on the baseball field.

I am on the job hunt as we speak.....

I am going to keep this blog up and write about our experiences here in Alaska. The trip up was an huge adventure in itself, but living here is another whole adventure.

  1. Suzanne, have you moved to Alaska? What a great adventure! Do you remember the Pomeroys from Aramco? They are living in Anchorage. I love your blog! Love, Hugs, & Prayers, Dottie Hubbell
